Is the Shimano R50T2 the Right Road Brake Shoe?

The Shimano R50T2 is the OEM road brake shoe for Tiagra, Sora, and Claris caliper-style rim brakes, using a one-piece bolt-in design that slots directly into the caliper arm rather than a cartridge holder system. The R50T2 compound is engineered for low rim wear while delivering consistent braking performance in dry and mixed conditions, making it well-suited to the alloy-rimmed bikes these caliper families are typically paired with. The pad runs quiet and shows low wear rates under normal training and commuting conditions.

Compatible brake calipers include BR-4600, BR-4500, BR-3500, BR-3400, BR-2400, BR-R451, and BR-R450 -- covering Tiagra 4500 and 4600, Sora 3400 and 3500, and Claris 2400 families along with select entry road models. The R50T2 uses a bolt-in attachment style, not the cartridge-type R55 system used in higher-end Shimano calipers, so it is not interchangeable with R55C3 or R55C4 pads. Each package includes one pair of shoes. The R50T2 is strictly for aluminum rims -- do not use on carbon rim braking surfaces.
