What Sets the Wheels Manufacturing 172 Hanger Apart From OEM?

The Wheels Manufacturing Derailleur Hanger 172 replaces the stock hanger on a long list of alloy Trek frames, including FX alloy from 2015 to 2017, Dual Sport from 2013 to 2017, CrossRip from 2013 to 2017, Verve from 2014 to 2016, Neko from 2014 to 2017, plus the 720, Allant, Conduit+, Lync, Shift, Transport, XM700+, and Zektor. It also fits the Giant AnyTour E+ from 2021. It attaches to the rear dropout from the derailleur side with a single M6 chainring bolt, and that fastener is included, which is not true of every hanger in the Wheels Mfg range. Match the shape against your current hanger before ordering, since bike makers change hangers mid year and one frame name can take two different parts.

Each 172 is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum in Wheels Manufacturing's Colorado shop and finished in black anodize. Wheels Mfg builds these stiffer than most OEM hangers, and a hanger that flexes less holds the derailleur in a truer plane, which is what cleans up shifting across the cassette. It is still the sacrificial part, designed to bend or shear before your frame or your derailleur does, so a spare in the parts drawer is the difference between a ten minute fix and a lost weekend.
