Shimano SPD-SL Cleat Set SM-SH11 - 6 Degree Yellow
Why Are the Shimano SM-SH11 Yellow Cleats the Default Starting Point?
The SM-SH11 is Shimano's 6-degree float SPD-SL road cleat, and it's the one Shimano includes with most of their road pedals for good reason. The 6-degree float allows the foot to rotate in a wide arc through the pedaling stroke before the cleat releases, accommodating a broad range of natural foot tracking patterns without fighting the rider's knee into a fixed position. This makes it the safest choice for new SPD-SL users, riders who have experienced knee pain with tighter cleats, or anyone whose pedaling mechanics haven't been analyzed through a bike fit. The center-pivot design allows the heel to swing inward and outward around a central axis at mid-cleat, which distributes the float range evenly on both sides rather than biasing lateral movement in one direction.
The SM-SH11 is compatible with all Shimano SPD-SL road pedals including Dura-Ace, Ultegra, 105, and Sora-tier road pedals, as well as any pedal using the Shimano SPD-SL 3-bolt cleat interface. Cleat position is fully adjustable within the shoe's mounting slot for fore-aft and rotational alignment. Each set includes two cleats and installation hardware. Most road cyclists ride yellow cleats their entire cycling lives without ever needing the reduced float of the blue SM-SH12 or the locked zero-float of the red SM-SH10. If you're just getting into road cycling, returning after a break, or looking for a reliable replacement set, the SM-SH11 yellow is the correct place to start.
