FAQ

What is the difference between ICE TECHNOLOGIES and ICE TECHNOLOGIES FREEZA on Shimano rotors?

Both use a 3-layer sandwich structure, but ICE TECHNOLOGIES FREEZA adds an extended inner aluminum layer with wide exposed radiator fins for even greater heat dissipation. The SM-RT86 uses standard ICE TECHNOLOGIES -- still a significant upgrade over plain stainless, but not at the FREEZA level found on the RT-MT800 or RT-MT905.

Can I run the SM-RT86 with XTR or SLX calipers?

Yes. Shimano disc brake rotors are cross-compatible across caliper tiers. The SM-RT86 will work with XTR, XT, SLX, Deore, and other Shimano MTB hydraulic disc brake calipers using 6-bolt hubs.

Does running a 180mm rotor require a caliper adapter?

It depends on your frame or fork's caliper mount and the original rotor size spec. If your frame or fork was designed for 160mm and you are moving to 180mm, you will need a post-mount to flat-mount size adapter. Confirm your frame spec before ordering.

Best For

Trail and enduro riders on 6-bolt hubs running Shimano XT M8000 or T8000 hydraulic disc brakes who want ICE TECHNOLOGIES heat management in a high-power 180mm rotor for aggressive descending.
