Factor questions, answered

Is Dialed Cycling Lab the authorized Factor Bikes dealer near me?

Yes. We are the geographic exclusive Factor dealer for the Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR metro area. This means we are the only authorized retail location in the region where you can configure and purchase a Factor in person. We are located at 3200 SE 164th Ave, Suite 105 in Vancouver, about 15 minutes from downtown Portland. Call (360) 828-1436 or send us a message to start a custom build conversation.

Can I get a custom build with my Factor?

Yes, and custom builds are our specialty. We spec every detail with you: drivetrain (SRAM RED AXS, Force AXS, Rival AXS, or Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Ultegra Di2), wheelset, tire choice and size, cockpit width and reach, seatpost setback (0mm or 20mm), saddle model, even the bar tape color and chainring sizes. We are happy to sit down with you in shop or work through the build over the phone, and we can quote any combination of parts you can dream up. Bring your existing bike fit data or sizing info and we build the bike around the rider, not the catalog. This is the winning formula we have used to deliver more Factor builds than we expected to.

Can you order Factor framesets or rolling chassis, not just complete bikes?

Yes. We can special order any Factor configuration: complete bike, rolling chassis (frame plus wheels and finishing kit), or just the frameset. Framesets are the right call if you have wheels and a groupset you love and want to move them onto a Factor. Rolling chassis is the middle ground, perfect if you are upgrading the drivetrain but keeping the rest. Complete builds are the standard option and what most customers go with. We can order any of the three at any time, in any current Factor color and size.

Where are Factor bikes made?

Factor is headquartered in Taichung, Taiwan, where owner Rob Gitelis has run his own carbon manufacturing facilities since 2002. Approximately 40 percent of Factor frames are made in Taiwan and 60 percent at the company's China factory. All frames are designed, assembled, and final-quality-controlled at the Taichung headquarters. Factor is one of the few premium bike brands at this price point where the brand owner also owns the factory, which is why their R&D cycles are longer and the build quality is consistently above spec.

Which Factor bike should I buy?

Depends on the riding. For road racing or one-bike-does-everything road, the Ostro VAM is Factor's flagship aero road bike, sub-7kg with 32mm tire clearance. For everyday road racing in alloy at a more accessible price, the Monza. For aggressive gravel racing on courses like Unbound and Belgian Waffle, the Aluto super-bike. For long-distance gravel and bikepacking with more compliance, the LS. We help spec the right one based on your riding style, sizing, and budget.

Ostro VAM vs Monza, what's the difference?

The Ostro VAM is Factor's premium carbon flagship: sub-7kg, aero shaping, 32mm tire clearance, and the platform Israel-Premier Tech raced on the World Tour through 2025. The Monza is Factor's alloy race bike, built for the everyday racer who wants World Tour DNA at a more accessible price point. Both have dropped seat stays, internal cable routing, and race-oriented geometry. Pick the Ostro VAM if you want the carbon flagship and plan to race it for years. Pick the Monza if you want a fast, responsive race bike without the premium carbon price.

Aluto vs LS, which gravel bike is for me?

The Aluto is Factor's gravel super-bike: steep head tube, short wheelbase, race-day geometry, and aero details borrowed from the road program. Built for riders chasing segment crowns at Unbound, Belgian Waffle Ride, or local gravel races. The LS is Factor's long-distance gravel platform: longer wheelbase, more compliance in the rear triangle, designed for big-mile rides, bikepacking, and exploring. Both share Factor's build quality and clear up to 50mm tires. Pick the Aluto if your gravel is race-focused. Pick the LS if your gravel is exploration-focused.

How does Factor compare to Specialized, Trek, or Pinarello?

At the flagship tier, Factor's Ostro VAM competes directly with the Specialized Tarmac SL8, Trek Madone SLR, and Pinarello Dogma F. All four are premium carbon race bikes raced at the World Tour. Factor's edge is two things: the manufacturing story (Rob Gitelis owns the factory, which means longer R&D cycles and build quality consistently above the spec sheet), and the build flexibility (Factor lets dealers like us spec every component, where the big brands hand you a catalog with three preset builds). Specialized and Trek have larger US dealer networks. Pinarello has the Tour de France legacy. Factor is the choice when you want a hand-built premium carbon bike specced exactly the way you want it.

What is the lead time on a custom Factor build?

Depends on what is in stock. We keep representative bikes from each platform in standard sizes on the floor. For a custom build with a standard color and a current-stock groupset, lead time is usually 1 to 3 weeks. For a custom color or a specific groupset that needs to be ordered in, lead times can be longer. Factor's limited and special edition colorways move fast and supply is finite, so if you see one you love it is worth acting sooner rather than later. We give you a real lead time estimate before you put down a deposit, not a marketing number.

What is the warranty on a Factor frame?

Factor offers a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects for the original owner on all current carbon frames. The alloy Monza has a separate warranty period. Crash damage is not covered under the standard warranty, but Factor's crash replacement program offers a meaningful discount on a replacement frame. We handle warranty claims directly with Factor on your behalf. You do not chase the manufacturer, we do.

How do I know what size Factor to order?

Factor uses standard centimeter frame sizing across the road and gravel range, typically 49cm through 61cm depending on the model. The best place to start is the Factor sizing guide on factorbikes.com, which gives a recommendation based on your height and inseam. From there, we can help confirm the right size based on your current bike, your reach and stack preferences, and any past fit data you have. If you already have a professional bike fit on file, send us the numbers and we will use them to dial in your custom build. We do not perform paid bike fits in-house, but we can help you nail the sizing and put you in touch with reputable fitters in the area if you want a full session before you order.

Do Factor bikes come with Black Inc wheels and components?

Often, and it is your call. Black Inc is Factor's in-house component brand, sister company under the same ownership, and the standard spec on most Factor builds because the parts were engineered together with the frames. You are not required to take Black Inc components on a custom build with us. We can spec any wheelset, cockpit, or finishing kit you prefer, including ENVE, Zipp, or any other premium brand. Most riders end up keeping the Black Inc parts because they are genuinely good, but the choice is always yours.

How does Factor price compare to other premium carbon brands?

Factor sits firmly in the premium carbon category, but it is one of the more reasonably priced options at the flagship tier. The Ostro VAM is typically priced below the Pinarello Dogma F, the Colnago V4Rs, and several other World Tour race bikes that ride on the same start lines. The alloy Monza brings Factor's engineering DNA down to a price point that competes directly with the Specialized Allez Sprint and Trek Émonda ALR. What you are paying for at Factor: a hand-laid carbon frame from a factory the brand owner runs, longer R&D cycles per frame, and the build flexibility to spec exactly the bike you want instead of choosing from three preset packages. For riders who want a hand-built premium carbon bike that performs above its spec sheet, the value is real.

What tire clearance do Factor bikes have?

Road models clear up to 32mm tires (Ostro VAM, Monza), which is enough for chip seal, rough pavement, and light gravel. Gravel models clear up to 50mm (Aluto, LS, Ostro Gravel), which covers everything short of true mountain bike terrain. Factor's tire clearance numbers are accurate to the millimeter; we have measured them at the shop on multiple builds and they match the spec.

Can you service Factor bikes that I didn't buy from you?

Yes. We service all Factor bikes regardless of where they were purchased, including warranty work. As the geographic exclusive Factor dealer for the area, we are also the closest authorized service location. Tune-ups, brake bleeds, derailleur hanger replacements, and full overhauls all happen in-shop. Walk-ins welcome, or call (360) 828-1436 to schedule.

Why We Ride It

Why Factor earns our PNW recommendation

Pacific Northwest road and gravel demand a bike that handles both surfaces well. Factor's Ostro VAM clears 32mm tires, which is enough to handle chip seal and the rough sections of Highway 14 without giving up race-day performance. The Aluto and LS gravel platforms have been making waves at Unbound and Belgian Waffle Ride, and they translate directly to the loose gravel and chunky forest road we ride every weekend. What sets us apart as the geographic exclusive Factor dealer for the Portland metro area is custom builds. We sit down with you and spec every detail of the bike: drivetrain, wheels, tire size, cockpit width, seatpost setback, saddle. Frameset, rolling chassis, or complete, we can special order any configuration any time. This has been our winning formula for Factor sales and it is how we deliver a bike that fits the rider, not the catalog.

The Technology

What makes Factor different

The engineering decisions behind every Factor product. Real differences, not marketing.

Custom builds, your spec

This is what we do. Drivetrain (SRAM RED, Force, Rival AXS or Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Ultegra Di2), wheelset, tire choice and size, cockpit width and reach, seatpost setback, saddle model, even the bar tape color. We sit down with you and spec the whole bike. Frameset, rolling chassis, or complete build, we special order any of them any time.

Factory-owned, not contracted

Most premium bike brands design in one country and contract manufacturing in another. Factor owner Rob Gitelis runs his own carbon factories in Taichung, Taiwan and China, which is why Factor frames come in lighter, stiffer, and more refined than the spec sheet suggests. R&D iterations that would be impossible at a contract manufacturer happen routinely at Factor.

Ostro VAM, the everything bike

Factor's flagship aero road bike: sub-7kg, 250g lighter and 7W faster than the previous generation, with 32mm tire clearance. The lightest aero bike raced at WorldTour level. Climbs like a featherweight, holds aero speed on flats, comfortable enough for cobbled classics.

Aluto, the gravel super-bike

Built for riders chasing segment crowns at Unbound and Belgian Waffle. Steep head tube, short wheelbase, aero details borrowed from the road program, and tire clearance up to 50mm. Factor's answer to riders who want a gravel bike that can actually race.

Factor brand story

The Story

Built by a racer who ran the factory

Factor's story starts with Rob Gitelis, a WorldTour pro in the 1990s and chemical engineering graduate who moved to Taiwan in 1996 and stepped into the world of bicycle manufacturing. He spent the next two decades quietly building carbon frames for some of the most respected brands in the sport, the outsider with insider knowledge, the engineer who understood racing because he had done it. The Factor brand itself traces back to a 2007 collaboration between BF1 Systems, a Norfolk-based F1 engineering group, and Gitelis's Taiwan factory. The Vis Vires came in 2013. The relaunched brand under Gitelis's ownership debuted at the Tour Down Under in 2016. What makes Factor different is that the person running the company also runs the factory. Most premium bike brands design in one country and contract manufacturing in another, with three layers of margin in between. Gitelis owns the factories. When the O2 went through 60 iterations of layup design before launch, it happened because Gitelis could afford the R&D time on his own production lines. That is not normal in the bike industry. It is why Factor frames consistently come in lighter, stiffer, and more refined than the spec sheet suggests. The Ostro VAM is the everything bike. The Monza is the everyday racer in alloy. The Aluto is the gravel super-bike. The LS is the long-distance gravel platform. Tour de France winner Chris Froome is a shareholder. World Tour teams race the bikes. We are the geographic exclusive Factor dealer for the Portland metro area, and our specialty is custom builds: we sit down with you and spec every detail of the bike from drivetrain to saddle. Frameset, rolling chassis, or complete, we can order any configuration any time. It has been a winning formula and it is the reason we sell more Factors than we expected to.
