FAQ

Do I really need to strip the chain before waxing?

Yes, and this step is non-negotiable. Factory grease and oil-based lubricants prevent wax from bonding to the chain metal. Use SILCA Ultimate Chain Stripper to get the chain completely clean before your first dip.

How often does the chain need to be re-dipped?

Most riders re-dip every 200 to 300km depending on conditions. Dry, clean conditions stretch that interval. Wet or dirty riding shortens it. You will feel the chain get louder and less smooth when it needs attention.

What temperature should the wax be melted to?

A slow cooker on its low setting typically reaches the right temperature. You want the wax fully liquid but not smoking. Around 90 to 100 degrees Celsius is ideal. Stir occasionally and dip the chain for 5 to 10 minutes.

Best For

Road and gravel racers and serious training riders who want the cleanest, fastest, most efficient drivetrain possible and are willing to invest the 20 minutes it takes to maintain a hot wax system.
