FAQ

How do I know if I need the black banjo hose kit?

Look at where the hose meets the caliper. The black banjo fitting sits at the caliper end, and this kit is the one that replaces it. A beveled banjo fitting sits at the lever instead and needs the beveled banjo kit. A silver banjo is crimped onto the hose at the caliper and cannot be replaced on its own.

What is actually in the SRAM black banjo hose kit?

A 2000mm black hose, two threaded barbs, two olives, four compression nuts, hose clips, and a T8 Torx L-key for installing the barbs. It is a complete replacement kit, so you are not sourcing small parts separately.

Can I use this hose with mineral oil brakes as well as DOT brakes?

The hose itself works with either fluid, but never mix them in one system. SRAM warns that DOT and mineral oil interact in a way that swells the inner layer of the hose and restricts fluid movement, which can cause brake failure. Once a hose has carried one fluid, it stays with that fluid.

Do I need special tools to fit a SRAM hose kit?

Yes. You need proper hydraulic line cutters, because the cut has to be clean and square for the olive to seal against the hose. Side cutters or a knife crush the hose and cause leaks. The T8 Torx key for the barbs is included in the kit.

Is 2000mm long enough for a rear brake line?

Yes. 2000mm is SRAM's long option and covers a rear line on the large majority of frames, so you trim to length rather than running short. Front lines are usually cut down from a shorter kit, but this length works for either once trimmed.

Best For

Mechanics and home wrenches replacing a cut, kinked, or leaking rear brake line on a SRAM brake that uses a black banjo at the caliper, and anyone rerouting hoses during a frame swap or internal routing job.
