Well, worry no more as we have an early season time trial that’s perfect for everyone – from the “I just got my training wheels off” to the “I eat mountain passes for breakfast” cyclists. Check out the Michael Myers Memorial Time Trial -aka- MMMTT!

The Same Old Routine

Let’s face it, we’ve all been there – stuck in the same old routine, pedaling the same old paths, and wondering if our cycling life could be a bit more… exciting. You might be thinking, “I’m just a beginner, can I really enter a race?” or “I’ve been cycling for years, what’s new for me here?” Are you ready to get off the trainer and out of Watopia? Hold on to your helmets, because we’ve got just the solution for you.

The Missing Spark in Your Cycling Life

Imagine your cycling life right now as a bland bowl of oatmeal. Sure, it does the job, but where’s the flavor? You need something to spice it up – something like an early season time trial. Oh look, the MMMTT on Saturday, March 9th is exactly what the doctor ordered!

10 Reasons Why the MMMTT is for YOU!

  1. Champion a Cause: Our race supports our non-profit cycling team, including youth and women’s cycling. Additionally, it helps support our BIKES for KIDS charity to provide less fortunate kids with new bikes. Score!! Every pedal you push helps nurture the future of this sport.
  2. All Are Welcome: Whether you’re more of a beginner or a seasoned pro, this race is for you. It’s the perfect setting to test your mettle, no matter your experience level.
  3. Early Season Fitness Boost: Signing up is a fantastic way to put something on the calendar that will inspire and motivate you to start training. It’s also a great way to measure your early season fitness and set goals.
  4. The Thrill of Competition: Picture the thrill of finding an extra fry at the bottom of the bag – that’s what racing feels like. With podium presentations and prizes, you get to experience the competitive side of cycling in a supportive environment.
  5. More Than Just a Race: With music, food, and great people, it’s a party that just so happens to be a day of racing full of good times and great memories!
  6. Prizes Galore: Think of it as the office lottery pool, but with better odds. With a silent auction and a raffle, you might just ride home with more than just a medal becasue everyone has a chance to win!
  7. Pinpoint Accuracy with Chip Timing: Our good friends at E8 Timing will again ensure your performance is recorded with chip timing precision. You can track your progress and set new personal bests, and you will instantly have your results once you finish your race.
  8. Community: Imagine a family BBQ, but with cyclists. It’s a chance to mingle, share stories, and bond over shared passions (like complaining about headwinds).
  9. Learn from your experience: Every race completed is another chapter in your book of becoming a better cyclist. Learn from your personal experience, observe others, and get feedback from those who have made racing TT’s an art form. Much like swapping recipes at a potluck, this event is an opportunity to exchange tips and advice with other cyclists.
  10. A Celebration for All: Whether you’re aiming for the podium or just hoping to finish, your effort is celebrated here. Itā€™s a supportive environment where every achievement is cheered. We celebrate every achievement, from the fastest sprint to the most graceful dismount.

Remembering My First Time Trial Experience

I recall my first time trial. I was jittery, nervous, and excited all at once as not only was it my first time trial, it was my first ever road race. I prepared as best as I could, staged up at the start, the countdown from 5 seconds out started, I took a deep breath as everything went quite except for the 4, 3, 2, 1… Bam! It was go time and off I went. But as I started pedaling, something magical happened ā€“ I was no longer just a participant in my first road race; I was part of an exhilarating dance that required balancing speed, power output, heart rate management, and focus on energy levels.Ā  I was in cycling nerd heaven! I knew what I was capable of,Ā  I knew the numbers I needed to watch on my computer, and I knew exactly how much more I had to go. Minutes felt like seconds, I used other riders on course as rabbits to chase, I did my best to cheat the wind, and I could not help smiling as I was able to catch a few riders who started before me.Ā  Yes, we were all competing against each other, but the camaraderie, the cheering, and the spirt was alive and well with everyone.Ā  “Great job!” “Get some!” “Lookin’ fast!” We all encouraged one another, and just like that, it was down to the last 1K. Was it painful?Ā  Yep, but I loved every second of it.Ā  If it wasn’t hard, I wasn’t doing it right, and I knew I wasn’t going to leave anything out there. At 200m out it was time to empty the tanks of any and all watts my body had left to give. My front wheel rolled over that white line and the sense of accomplishment slowly overtook the pain of 20k and the indescribable sensation of turning yourself inside out in that last 200m ā€“ it was done and I had nothing left to give.Ā  Mission accomplished. As it turns out, I did better than I was anticipating – 2nd place overall in the Open Eddy Category, which is a category where you are required to ride a road bike with no aero bars, skinsuits, aero helmets, or deep dish aero wheels. I love this category for so many reasons, and if you are interested in doing a TT and don’t want to go all in on a TT setup (yet), go experience what I did – It’s a blast!

Embrace the Race, No Matter the Pace

Let’s be real – not everyone can be the leader of the pack, and that’s perfectly fine. This event is about soaking in the joy of the ride that just so happens to be a race. It’s about chuckling at the starting line nerves, sharing a triumphant smile at the finish, and the amusing tales you’ll tell afterward. Whether you’re as speedy as a hare or steady like a tortoise, there’s joy in every journey.
