Wow a podcast about transgender women done by three cis men. Pretty much exactly what I thought it would be. All that info about Molly was incorrect, also. She DID race with the men when she first started, until she was forced to race with the men. This was like 20 years ago. Things change and evolve constantly Rachel deserves to race whatever category she wants, as does Molly.
Talking about someone’s surgical transition status is also grossly inappropriate. Maybe educate yourselves on a topic before you sit down to record your thoughts.
Yet another OBRA board member disappoints me.
Hi Rachel,
Thank you for taking the time to reach out. I will quickly touch on a few items:
1) If we were incorrect about anything regarding Molly, we will definitely retract and correct as necessary. In fact, this process has already begun as we do not want to be incorrect in any way.
2) We are sorry that you did not approve of what we discussed, the questions that we decided to cover, or the fact that we ran through talking points that have been in discussion for some time now. If you listened to the entire podcast, you would have heard us mention several times that we are not the most qualified people to talk about the topic, but it is our opinion that this should not preclude us from doing so. We also mentioned many times that we are very sympathetic to Rachel and the transgender community, that we want to learn more, and that we would love nothing more than to have someone come on the podcast to further educate us.
3) The question regarding the locker room was not specific to transgenders, but rather was directed at someone who falsely claimed to be transgender so they could ultimately gain access to the locker room of the gender of their sexual preference. This question stemmed from the question of the same person falsely identifying as transgender in order to gain a scholarship or the athletic spotlight. We would agree that this might have been slightly off topic, but the question came about from several actual events that have occurred. It is our belief that this could be more of an issue in the future, so it was completely appropriate to discuss. We did make it very clear that we do not have an issue with transgenders having access to the locker rooms (or bathrooms for that matter) of their choice.
We simply want to learn more (stated), we feel that this is a very difficult topic as there will always be someone who feels it is unfair (stated), and we want to create constructive conversations (stated). Labeling any of us as “transphobic” is way off base… we have no fear or aversion to transgender people, nor do we discriminate against transgenders in any way, shape, or form. We do question the fairness and inequities for both transgenders and cis women when it comes to sport and completion, which is a completely fair and appropriate topic for us to discuss.
Rachel, you should start a dialogue on this subject and try to show some level of respect. I do not think anyone is here to disrespect you or shut down your right to free speech. If you engage in discussion with your point of view, you will see a robust dialogue occur. What you have done is engaged in cancel culture which is not something that will help you have a voice in the long run. Just remember to treat others as you want to be treated (Golden Rule), otherwise don’t be surprised if people come at you with accusations and attacks if that is how you come at them.
Know your audience. Realize that no one on this podcast is coming from a place of disrespect, and they are certainly open to discuss any topic you would like to talk about. Furthermore, if something is factually false, you have all the freedom in the world to post facts pointing out where the falsehoods lay. If you simply disagree with someone’s point, then have a rational discussion about why you disagree. Just remember that because someone disagrees with you does not make them right or wrong unless there is actual fact that proves their point incorrect. Bring facts, or its your opinion versus someone else’s opinion – and we are all entitled to our own opinion.
When you sit down and read your opening dialogue “Wow a podcast about transgender women done by three cis men. Pretty much exactly what I thought it would be,”, do you think this is a fair statement or a statement that gains you any respect? You do not want to be labeled but it is somehow OK for you to label others? You do not want other people to make assumptions about you, but you made huge assumptions before you listened to the podcast. May your assumptions predispose you to take offense or become defensive when listening? When you listened to the podcast, did you get upset? If so, did you think to respond in a manner that educates, creates an open forum for discussion, and sympathizes with diverse opinions – versus labeling, demeaning, and discounting their thoughts?
Just remember, that that your opinion is your opinion and many likely will not agree with it. That does not make those people bad or incorrect. It means they do not believe like you do. Hopefully, they have as much respect for you as you do for them, and we can all live in a respectful world even when we do not agree with each other. With all due respect – Peace Out!

I listened to the ENTIRE podcast before I typed out my reply. And yes, I still think it is grossly inappropriate for cis men to make a podcast about transgender athletes. I don’t care if you respect me. Full stop. What am I labelling “others” as? Cis? Because they are? I don’t know, or care to know, who you are, but maybe you should educate YOURSELF on trans issues also. I would never sit down to do a podcast about how many masters men are doping, because I’m not a master male racer. But if I did, for some reason, sit down for an hour and a half to talk about it, and then have it devolve into how masters racers are super agro and it’s probably because of the testosterone supplements, I would expect some negative reactions, as these men should have.
Opinions have no place in trans issues. That’s why we have science.
You should really send me an email about this. A podcast about a trans racer that devolves into what locker room children should use and kids “abusing” transness Is wholly unacceptable.
You’ve got a team member who could have given some context here, why not include them?
Rachel Cameron is a little unhinged and one of those trans supporters who has no ability to consider the other side of an argument. She basically criticizing your right to free speech and doesn’t like what you talked about so she wants to shut you down and criticize you. I often wonder if people like this under “freedom” at all and what exactly means? It’s your right to have a pod cast and talk about ever you want. She just didn’t like your subject matter she’s having a temper tantrum about it!
