What is the Challenge Getaway Pro Handmade TLR built for?

The Getaway is Challenge's most popular gravel tire. It is built for hardpack, intermediate gravel, and firm to loose dirt, which covers most of what an everyday gravel ride throws at you. Challenge calls it the first choice for races and big rides, and only suggests switching when a course is very wet or rocky with chunky gravel. Bicycle Rolling Resistance tested the Getaway Pro and rated it 5 out of 5, Highly Recommended.

This is the PRO handmade version in 700 x 45 with black sidewalls. Its Super Polyester casing runs 260 TPI, and a second layer of puncture protection (PPS2) sits on the inside of the casing for rough roads and gravel. It is tubeless ready and compatible with both hooked rims and ISO/ETRTO-compliant hookless rims. Challenge recommends its Smart Tubeless Sealant for setup.

How is the Getaway Pro Handmade different from the standard Getaway TLR?

Both use the same Getaway tread. The standard Getaway TLR is from Challenge's vulcanized RACE series with a 60 TPI nylon casing. The Pro is handmade with a 260 TPI Super Polyester casing and the PPS2 inner puncture layer.

Can I run it on hookless rims?

Yes. Challenge lists all of its handmade TLR tires from 33 to 45C, including this 700 x 45, as compatible with ISO/ETRTO-compliant hookless rims. It also works on hooked rims.

When should I pick a different tire?

Challenge recommends the Getaway for most races and big rides, and suggests switching only when a course is very wet, or rocky with chunky gravel.
