Why Put Lights on a Race Pedal Like the Look KEO Blade Ceramic?

A Clemson University study found that lights moving with a rider's heels made them roughly five and a half times more noticeable to drivers than a static seatpost light. Motion is what pulls a driver's eye. Look built a 60 lumen Vision module into each pedal, with a 180 degree beam that they rate as visible from a kilometer out in full daylight. Four modes cover the range from Day Flash for bright sun to a steady beam for dark roads, and the lights run up to 40 hours before a two hour USB-C recharge.

The pedal underneath is a proper race pedal, not a commuter platform with a light stuck on. Carbon body, ceramic bearings that Look rates at 18 percent less friction and four to six times the service life of steel, and the carbon Blade leaf spring in place of a coil. It is 135 grams per pedal, 270 grams for the pair with lights fitted, on a 705 mm2 platform with a 14.8 mm stack. The 12 Nm blade is installed from the factory, and blades swap in under 30 seconds across 8, 12, 16, and 20 Nm. Start and Stop puts the lights into standby after 30 seconds of stillness and wakes them when you pedal. IPX7 rated, and they snap off by hand to charge. Keo Grip cleats included.

Yes. It is the same 705 mm2 carbon platform with ceramic bearings and the carbon Blade spring. The Vision adds the light module and a rear clip to carry it, which takes the weight from 115 g to 135 g per pedal.
