How Does the Muc-Off X-3 Dirty Chain Machine Work?
The Muc-Off X-3 Dirty Chain Machine clips together over your chain on the bike, releases cleaner from its top reservoir at the press of a button, and scrubs the chain as you pedal backward. Abrasive cleaning teeth and rotating brush wheels with 120 contact points cover all areas of each chain link. The dirty fluid drops into a second, lower reservoir, so it stays away from the clean chain.
The kit includes the X-3 machine and a refillable 75ml bottle of Muc-Off Drivetrain Cleaner. The machine has a heavy-duty construction and is easy to rinse with water and reuse. It works on road, MTB, and cyclocross chains, but not on BMX or track chains.

Muc-Off pairs the X-3 with its Drivetrain Cleaner, and the kit includes a refillable 75ml bottle. Fill the reservoir, clip the X-3 over the chain, pedal backward two or three times, then press the top button to release cleaner while you keep pedaling. Detach the machine and rinse the drivetrain with water afterward.
Which chains does the X-3 work with?
Muc-Off lists the X-3 for road, MTB, and cyclocross bicycle chains. It is not compatible with BMX or track chains, or with motorcycle chains, which have wider links.
How do I clean the machine after use?
Detach the machine from the chain, rinse it with water, and store it until next time. Muc-Off also sells an X-3 Spare Parts Kit for when parts wear out.
