The SM-CN900-11 is Shimano's 11-speed chain quick-link, providing tool-free chain installation and removal for Shimano 11-speed road and MTB drivetrains. Each package contains two quick-links, which is enough for two full chain installations or for keeping a spare on hand during a long ride or race. The quick-link functions as a master link, joining the chain into a complete loop without requiring a chain tool to push a pin. Shimano lists it as nickel plated and also marks it compatible with its E-BIKE rear derailleur systems.
Shimano rates the SM-CN900-11 as non-reusable. Once the link has been ridden and the locking mechanism has seated under load, it should be replaced with a new quick-link each time the chain is removed. Shimano rates its quick-links as non-reusable, so fit a new one each time the chain is removed rather than reusing a link that has already been seated.
Is the SM-CN900-11 compatible with SRAM 11-speed chains?
Shimano quick-links are designed and tested with Shimano chains. SRAM uses its own PowerLock quick-link. While 11-speed chain pitch is standardized, using a Shimano quick-link on a SRAM chain or vice versa is not officially supported and may affect link retention reliability.
How do I open a quick-link for chain removal?
Quick-links are opened by pushing both ends toward each other to relieve tension on the locking mechanism, then sliding the plates apart laterally. Quick-link pliers make this easier and are recommended for consistent, clean removal without bending the link plates.
