Most modern SPD-compatible shoes have captive cleat nut inserts pre-installed in the sole, threaded channels that hold the cleat bolt in place during installation without loose nuts. If your shoe has visible threaded inserts in the cleat slot, use this no-nut version.
What is the difference between SM-SH51 and SM-SH56?
SM-SH51 is single-release, exit requires a lateral heel-out twist only. SM-SH56 is multi-release, so you can clip out by twisting your foot in either direction or by lifting and twisting your heel, making it easier for beginners and commuters. Choose SM-SH51 for secure engagement and SM-SH56 for ease of exit.
How is this different from the SM-SH51 pair with cleat nuts?
The with-nut version includes loose cleat nuts for shoes where the sole does not have captive inserts, typically older shoes or some touring footwear. This no-nut version is for shoes with captive inserts already installed.
