What Is the Shimano SM-SH51 SPD Single-Release Cleat Set?
The Shimano SM-SH51 is the SPD single-release cleat set, requiring a deliberate lateral heel-out twist to exit the pedal. Single-release provides a more locked-in, secure engagement than multi-release SM-SH56 cleats, the preferred choice for performance road cyclists, time trialists, gravel racers, and experienced clipless riders who want a secure connection during high-effort pedaling. The secure engagement is well-suited to road shoes, gravel shoes, and fitness footwear where pedaling efficiency takes priority over ease of foot placement.
Works with nearly all Shimano SPD two-bolt pedals. Sold as a pair. For riders who prefer secure engagement over the easier multi-directional exit of SM-SH56.

SM-SH51 single-release requires a lateral heel-out twist to exit. SM-SH56 multi-release lets you clip out by twisting your foot in either direction or by lifting and twisting your heel. SM-SH51 is preferred for performance riding where secure engagement is the priority; SM-SH56 is better for beginners, trail MTB, and commuters who need to get a foot down quickly.
Do you also carry the SM-SH51 without cleat nuts?
Yes. We also list a no-nut version of the SM-SH51 for shoes that already have cleat nut inserts in the sole.
Are SM-SH51 cleats compatible with non-Shimano SPD pedals?
Shimano says the SM-SH51 works with nearly all Shimano SPD pedals. It doesn't list other brands' pedals, so we can't promise how it works on them.
