What is the Shimano stainless road brake cable for?

This is Shimano's 1.6mm x 2050mm stainless steel inner brake cable for road STI brake levers, featuring a pear-end tip that seats correctly in Shimano road lever barrels. Road brake cables use a pear-end (barrel) tip rather than the cylindrical tip used on MTB levers. Using the wrong cable type will result in a cable that doesn't seat properly in the lever. Stainless construction provides corrosion resistance for all-weather riding. At 2050mm it covers the full front and rear cable run on most road frames.

1.6mm diameter, 2050mm length, pear-end tip. Compatible with Shimano STI road brake levers and most other road brake levers using pear-end cable. Sold as a single cable.
