FAQ

Why can't I use the CN-4601 on a Dyna-Sys MTB drivetrain?

Shimano's 10-speed road (Hyperglide) and 10-speed MTB (Dyna-Sys) chains use different inner plate widths and profile geometries that are tuned to their respective cog tooth profiles. Using a road chain on Dyna-Sys cassettes will produce poor shifting, noise, and rapid wear on both the chain and cassette.

What does the directional plate design mean for installation?

The CN-4601 has a specific orientation that must be observed during installation. Shimano marks the correct chain direction on the outer plate. Always install the chain with the directional markings running in the correct direction of travel (drivetrain side) to ensure the plate geometry works as intended with the cog teeth.

Does the CN-4601 work with a 10-speed double road crankset?

Yes. While the CN-4601 is specifically designed and specified for triple crankset applications, it will function correctly on a 10-speed double road drivetrain as well. The directional plate geometry and Hyperglide profile are compatible with all Shimano 10-speed road cog profiles.

Best For

Road cyclists on Shimano Ultegra 6703 or 105 5703 triple drivetrains, and any Shimano Hyperglide 10-speed road application, who need a correct-spec chain replacement with chromized pins and directional plate geometry.
