How Does the Silca Mattone Ultimate Compare to the Original?
The Silca Mattone Ultimate Seat Pack is the lightest saddle bag Silca has built, at 44 grams against 90 for the original Mattone. It gets there by dropping stitched canvas for RF-welded TPU composite panels, which makes the shell seamless, leaves water fewer places to get in, and lets the bag sit closer to the saddle rails. Capacity is 0.4L, enough for a tube, a CO2 cartridge and regulator, tire levers, and a multitool. Dimensions are 128 x 60 x 91 mm.
Closure is the BOA Li2 system, a low profile metal dial running a soft TX4 lace cable. It gives micro-adjustable compression that pulls the pack up against the rails rather than only cinching it shut, which is what kills the sway and the rattle. A Hypalon reinforced strap and a water-resistant YKK zipper handle the weather, and an integrated mounting strap on the outside takes a light or a camera.
