What is SILCA Synergetic built for?
SILCA Synergetic is SILCA's go-to choice for riders who do not want to make the switch to a wax-based lube. It is the fastest oil-based lubricant SILCA has ever tested, and the speed comes from a combination of nano-scale WS2 (Tungsten Disulfide) paired with ZDDP, an anti-wear additive used in race car engine oil. Alone each cuts friction by 10 to 15 percent, but together they form a durable tribofilm on the metal. In ASTM G77 pin wear testing, the combination cut wear by more than 95 percent compared to a Type IV base oil. In SILCA testing the lube stayed in the chain even under full water submersion.
SILCA rates a single application at 500+ miles, and one 2oz bottle covers up to 12,000 miles. SILCA notes that hot melt and drip wax may ultimately be slightly more efficient and cleaner running, and that is the tradeoff for skipping the clean, dry chain start and 300 mile reapplication of wax. To apply, wipe off the chain, put one drop on each link, back pedal 12 rotations, and wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth.
