Here is the part that trips people up. The SRAM Centera Twist Shifter Set is a SRAM shifter that runs Shimano rear derailleurs, not SRAM ones. The rear shifter uses Shimano mountain cable pull and pairs with rear derailleurs built for 9 or fewer cogs, which covers most 7 and 8 speed flat bar drivetrains still on the road. The front shifter is micro-friction, so it is not indexed and will pull almost any front derailleur across a triple. Speeds are 8 in the rear and 3 up front.
The set uses SRAM's long-running GripShift twist design, and it includes cables and the stationary grips, so housing is the only thing you need to add. Cables can be replaced without pulling the shifter off the bar, which matters more than it sounds when you are servicing a commuter or a fleet bike. Claimed weight for the set is 270 grams. If you are rebuilding an older flat bar bike and the twist shifters are worn out, this is the straightforward like-for-like replacement, as long as your rear derailleur is Shimano.

What does micro-friction mean on the front shifter?
Micro-friction means the front shifter is not indexed. It holds position by friction, so you trim it by feel rather than clicking into fixed positions, which is what lets it work across a wide range of front derailleurs on a double or a triple.
Can I replace the cable without removing the SRAM Centera shifter?
Yes. The Centera is built so cables are replaced without taking the shifter off the handlebar, which saves pulling the grip and the bar end during a service.
