The XG-1251 is the 12-speed XPLR cassette, built for the original 12-speed XPLR rear derailleurs across Rival, Force, and RED AXS. That distinction matters more than it sounds: SRAM's newer 13-speed XPLR E1 platform uses the XG-1371 or XG-1351 instead, and the two generations do not mix. Its 10-44t spread works out to 440% of range, with cogs at 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 24, 28, 32, 38, and 44. Shift features are cut into each cog for electronic shifting, so the jumps land cleanly under an AXS derailleur rather than needing a lever feathered.

X-Range gearing is what makes that spread usable: tight steps down low where you are holding pace on pavement, then a bailout at the top for a loaded gravel climb. The cogs are tool steel joined by SRAM's Mini Cluster pinned construction, finished in nickel chrome, which earns its keep on a bike that sees stream crossings and wet winter roads. It needs an XDR driver body, not an XD and not a Shimano HG, and it runs on Flattop chains.

No. The XG-1251 is the 12-speed XPLR cassette and pairs with the original 12-speed XPLR derailleurs from Rival, Force, and RED AXS. The 13-speed XPLR E1 platform uses the XG-1371 or the XG-1351 instead. If your derailleur is a 13-speed E1 model, this is not the cassette for it.

What freehub body does the XG-1251 need?
