The Tannus Armour Tire Insert 26 x 4.0-4.8 is a foam insert that sits between your tire and inner tube to deliver puncture protection, pinch-flat protection, and rim protection on 26-inch fat bike tires in the 4.0 to 4.8 inch width range. Built around Aither, Tannus's patented multi-cell rebounding foam compound, the insert provides 15mm of puncture protection under the tread and 2mm of sidewall protection from sharp objects, eliminating roughly 90% of common flats. This is the dedicated fat tire size for snow bikes, sand riding, and 26-inch fat tire e-bikes where every pinch flat is a 550-gram tube replacement.
Armour lets you run lower tire pressures for better float and grip on snow, sand, and loose terrain without risking pinch flats, which is the entire point of running fat tires in the first place. Note that this fat tire size does not offer run-flat capability, so a puncture will end the ride. Installation is as simple as a regular tube swap, requires a minimum 19mm inner rim width, and uses a smaller-than-stock tube (26 x 3.0-3.5) for proper fit. Sold as a single insert, weight 550g, in Tannus's signature red.
