What is the Wolf Tooth ALT XC Clipless Pedal built for?
Wolf Tooth designed the ALT XC Clipless Pedal for commanding performance on trails and gravel roads. Wolf Tooth says it is lighter and thinner than its Shimano, Hope, and HT counterparts, at 294g and a 15mm body, while giving more platform area for control and power transfer. On many SPD-compatible XC pedals, the only contact between shoe and pedal is the cleat and cage. The ALT gives your shoe 443mm² of platform to rest on, and an open center between the cages helps it shed mud.
Inside is the proven axle and bearing design from Wolf Tooth's Waveform pedals: a heat-treated 17-4 PH stainless steel axle, three cartridge bearings, and an igus bushing with a radial seal that keeps trail debris out. A patent-pending Adjustable Q Factor sets stance at 51, 55, or 59mm and ships at 55mm, and the stainless binding works with your existing SPD cleats, with Wolf Tooth cleats included. The ALT is CNC machined in Minnesota, USA and backed by a 5-year warranty.

Yes. The ALT uses a stainless steel SPD-compatible binding that works with your existing SPD cleats, and Wolf Tooth optimized it for the Wolf Tooth cleats included in the box.
What is the adjustable Q factor and why does it matter?
Q factor is your pedal stance width. The ALT lets you set 51, 55, or 59 mm by rearranging the internal spacers and bearings, which Wolf Tooth says is simple enough to do at home. Pedals ship at 55 mm, and a spacer kit sold separately adds 53 and 57 mm.
Why does the larger platform matter on an XC pedal?
On many SPD-compatible XC pedals, the only contact between shoe and pedal is the cleat and cage. Wolf Tooth says the ALT's larger platform lets the shoe contact the pedal body for more control and power transfer on gravel and trails.
Can I service and repair these myself?
Yes. Wolf Tooth says the ALT is fully user serviceable, with service guides and individual replacement parts available through Wolf Tooth Right to Repair.
