What is the Zipp 404 S built for on the road?
The Zipp 404 S Tubeless Carbon Disc-Brake Wheels are a 50mm deep road wheel made for road racers, criterium riders and anyone who spends most of their miles on fast pavement. Zipp built the 404 S as the next step up from the 303 S, with a mid-depth rim shape based on its Firecrest design that adds aero speed while staying shallow enough to stay steady in crosswinds. The rim uses Zipp's Hookless/Tubeless Straight Side (TSS) construction, so it runs tubeless tires only, and the 23mm internal width supports 28 to 40mm tires at lower pressures for better grip and lower rolling resistance.
Each wheel is laced 2-cross with Sapim CX-Sprint spokes to the Zipp 76/176 hubset, which gives 36 points of engagement and mounts Center Lock rotors on 12mm thru axles. We carry the front wheel (12x100mm) and the rear wheel with a SRAM XDR driver (12x142mm), sold separately so you can build a full pair or replace a single wheel.
