FAQ

What are vehicle size detection and threat level detection?

Paired with a compatible Garmin Edge or the Varia app, the RearVue 820 shows whether an approaching vehicle is small, medium or large, shows when a vehicle changes lanes, and rates its threat level based on speed, size and lateral range. It can also keep tracking a vehicle traveling at the same speed as you. Garmin notes same-speed tracking can be limited at slower speeds or when the radar cannot detect the road, such as in snow, ice or heavy rain, or with incorrect mounting.

How does the brake light work?

The RearVue 820 detects when you are slowing or stopping and switches to a unique flash pattern so drivers behind you can see it.

RearVue 820 or RCT715?

The RearVue 820 has the longer radar range, wider beam, brighter tail light, brake light and much longer battery life. The RCT715 adds a built-in 1080p camera. Our full comparison is on the Dialed blog: Garmin Varia RearVue 820 vs RCT715.
