Every Dialed Cycling Team rider represents the team, our sponsors and the cycling community, on the bike and off it. This Code spells out what we expect of each other. Every teammate reads and signs it each season.
1. Represent the team well
- Conduct yourself in a way that reflects well on the team, our partners and our sponsors, at races, on rides, online and in everyday life.
- Support the sponsors who support us. Questions or concerns about a sponsor go to the Team Director or the board, not to the sponsor directly.
- Team discounts and sponsor pricing are a member benefit. Don't post or share the rates publicly.
- Take care of any equipment the team or a sponsor lends you, and return it when asked.
2. Respect everyone
- Treat teammates, competitors, officials, volunteers, event organizers and the public with respect.
- Bullying, harassment, discrimination and abuse of any kind are not tolerated.
- This applies everywhere: at team events, in person, by text or DM, and online, including on personal accounts. Harassing or targeting a teammate is never OK, wherever it happens.
- Handle disagreements directly and constructively. If you can't settle something with a teammate, bring it to a captain or the board.
- Accept officials' decisions without making a scene. If you disagree with a call, follow the race's protest process.
3. Ride and race safely
- Follow the rules of the road on group rides and the race rules at every event.
- Ride predictably, communicate in the group, and never ride in a way that puts others at risk.
- Keep your bike in safe working order and wear a helmet on every ride.
- Leave no trace. Carry out your trash on rides and at races.
4. Race clean and fair
- Follow the anti-doping rules of USADA and our governing bodies, including OBRA, USA Cycling and USA Triathlon. Banned substances and methods are prohibited.
- Race with integrity and good sportsmanship, win or lose.
- During races, work with your teammates and respect the plan agreed on with your captain.
5. Online and in public
- Posts on any team platform, including Slack, team social accounts and team club pages, may not include politics, religion, illegal activity, hate, slander or defamation.
- Your personal accounts are your own, and you're free to share your own views there. But when you post in team kit, tag the team, or are otherwise known as a Dialed rider, your conduct reflects on everyone on the team. Harassing, threatening or personally attacking anyone online breaks this Code, no matter which account you use.
- Think before you post about the team, a teammate, a competitor or a sponsor. Anything that could damage the team's reputation stays off public channels.
- Only the Team Director or the board speaks for the team to the media. Send media questions their way.
6. Protect our juniors
Juniors are a big part of this team, and keeping them safe is everyone's job. The team follows USA Cycling's Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP). For every adult on the team, that means:
- Any one-on-one time between an adult and a junior at team activities must be observable and interruptible by another adult. Team activities include rides, races, clinics, camps and travel.
- Electronic messages between an adult and a junior must include the junior's parent or guardian or another adult. That covers texts, DMs and email. No private one-on-one messaging.
- An adult does not drive a junior alone without the parent or guardian's written permission. An adult never shares a hotel room or sleeping space with a junior who is not their own child.
- No photos or recording in changing areas. Don't post photos or video of a junior without permission from the junior and their parent or guardian.
- Board members, and any adult who coaches, leads or regularly works with our juniors, complete SafeSport training and keep it current.
- Juniors appear on the team site with first name and last initial only, and without social links, unless the junior and a parent approve otherwise.
7. Speak up
- Bring concerns, questions and ideas to your captain, the Team Director or the board. We want to hear them.
- Report any breach of this Code to the Team Director or the board.
- If you suspect abuse or misconduct involving a minor, report it to the U.S. Center for SafeSport at uscenterforsafesport.org or 833-5US-SAFE. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911 first. You can also tell the Team Director or the board, but don't wait on us to report.
8. When the Code is broken
- The board reviews reported breaches and talks with everyone involved.
- Before any suspension or removal, the board will talk with the rider and hear their side. Removal decisions are made by the board and recorded in writing.
- Depending on how serious it is, the outcome can be a conversation, a warning, a suspension, or removal from the team.
- While a concern is being resolved, the board may ask a rider to stop wearing team kit or using the team name.
- Serious misconduct, including any abuse of a minor, can lead to immediate removal and will be reported to the proper authorities.
