Remembering Michael

Michael Myers

Michael Myers was the first person invited to join the Dialed Cycling Team, and one of the 11 riders who raced its first season together in 2017. He helped shape what the team would be about, raced masters road races and time trials in team orange, and he brought people with him. Dialed Cycling Team teammate John Hatfield, still on the team today, joined because Michael convinced him to.

Off the bike, Michael was a radiation oncologist. He started medical school at 33, after years of working full time while going to school, including jobs as an auto mechanic and as a nursing aide. He had a special place in his heart for patients fighting cancer. He was a husband and the father of two sons, an avid cyclist, and a passionate, funny guy.

We lost Michael on November 8, 2018. He was 51.

Michael loved time trials, so the team's early season time trial, which grew out of the old Jack Frost Time Trial, now carries his name. Every November the team also rides the Michael Myers Memorial Ride in the hills of Washougal, with a regroup for coffee and donuts. Michael was a bit of a donut connoisseur.

"I knew their strategy. Grab Myers wheel and come around him with 200 meters. Not rocket science here."

#MM542, in memory of Michael Myers

#MM542 is Michael's memorial mark. The 542 was his OBRA race number. The team carries the mark in his honor.

The Race

Race the Michael Myers Memorial Time Trial

The Dialed Cycling Team hosts the time trial every year at Vancouver Lake as an early season OBRA race. It is open to every rider, from juniors in their first time trial to masters chasing a personal best, with traditional time trial categories and Eddy Merckx categories for riders on a regular road bike. Race day has chip timing by E8 Timing, food, music, a raffle and a silent auction.

The next race date is not set yet. The time trial is usually held in mid to late March. We post the date here as soon as it is set, and registration opens on OBRA.
